Electroless Nickel Plating
on Special Materials
Titanium, tantalum and tungsten are materials used in applications where their intrinsic properties (structural lightness, extreme chemical resistance, very high melting point) are essential. However, they are materials that are intrinsically difficult to coat: they require specific surface preparation cycles, different from the standard ones used for steels, aluminium and copper alloys.
At Deltar we treat titanium, tantalum and tungsten as dedicated processes within our range of ENP treatments, applying specific preparation cycles for each material.
Our approach
Each treatment on special materials is assessed case by case, considering:
- Exact composition of the material and reference alloy
- Initial surface finish condition
- Geometries of the component and the presence of critical couplings
- Expected operating environment
- Applicable specifications (customer standards, sector regulations)
Deltar’s in-house laboratory validates each process through dedicated control specimens before going into production, with tests compliant with ASTM and ISO standards.
Application sectors
Special materials are typically used in the most demanding industrial sectors:
- Aerospace
- Medical
- Chemical
- Military
- High-performance electronics
- Special tools and moulds
What is needed for
an assessment
As these are special materials, each request is assessed on an individual basis. To propose the most suitable cycle, it is useful to receive:
